Craig Bellamy has been backed to eventually move into club football by one of his former managers.
Bellamy is the current manager of Wales, having been in post since the summer of 2024. He was heavily linked with a switch to Championship side Burnley a few months back, having previously served on the coaching staff with the Clarets, but the move ultimately didn’t happen.
Referencing that recently, the 47-year-old said: “I had a decision to make, and I made that decision. That for me was to stay, it’s as simple as that. I see what went out, it’s not for me to talk. This is the first time I’m talking about it and I made the decision to stay, because this is the right place for me.”
Now, his old manager Gordon Strachan has said Bellamy appears destined for a move to club football one day and that his old player “seems built for the daily grind of managing at the top level”.
Strachan, who bossed Bellamy during their time together at Coventry City, said: “Craig Bellamy is hugely committed. He isn’t the type of manager to back down when pressure builds.
“Modern fan views can be led by noisy commentary on social media, whereas the majority of match-going supporters have a more realistic perspective.
“International management works well for stretches, but if you crave daily intensity, club management is where you want to be. Craig thrives on daily work and high intensity, while when I did it, I was slightly older, so enjoyed not having that same level.
“He was like that as a player and I think he would enjoy day-to-day club management. Personally, I enjoyed taking breaks between international windows, but Craig seems built for the daily grind of managing at the top level.
“So there’s different people, but I think Craig is probably ready. He enjoys his job, he loves his job, there’s no doubt about that. But I think as a manager, you really want to test yourself at the top level, day in, day out.”
